Abstract

The paper presents the results of measurements of thermal diffusivity temperature characteristic of the high strength steel S960QL, in a wide temperature range from (-)60 °C to 1250 °C. Two kinds of the Netzsch laser flash apparatus, i.e. the low-temperature LFA 467 and the high temperature – LFA 427 were used. As a reference material a sample from the stainless steel 310, was utilized within the temperature range from (-)60 °C to 480 °C. Reference material was used to verify the test results of thermal diffusivity and to determine the thermal conductivity by the comparative method. Previous investigations of the heat capacity and linear thermal expansion of the stainless steel S960QL revealed phase transition of the second kind occurred at about 750 °C and was confirmed by thermal diffusivity studies shown in this paper [1]. The results of the thermal diffusivity tests of the stainless steel S960QL performed by means of the low LFA 467 and the high-temperature LFA 427 apparatus showed to be consistent with each other. In the calculation of the thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity temperature characteristics, the influence of thermal expansion of the tested material was taken into account.
