Abstract

The effect of non-uniform temperature upon stationary distributions of thermal neutrons in extended non-absorbing media is studied on the basis of transport theory. Expressions are given by which the thermal diffusion factor, along with the coefficient of ordinary diffusion, can be computed for any given scattering law. In the case of two adjacent semi-infinite media with different temperatures; it is shown that the ratio of the fluxes on one and the other side at great distance from the discontinuity can be determined approximately, by application of an integral of the transport equation.
