Abstract

Kinetics and thermodynamic parameters such as order of reaction, energy of activation, frequency factor, entropy change, free energy change and apparent entropy change have been determined for the thermal decomposition of the polychelates of Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) with 4,4′-dihydroxy-3,3′-diacetyl biphenyl-2,3-butanedione dihydrazone (DDBBD). Freeman-Carroll and Sharp-Wentworth methods have been applied for the calculation of kinetic parameters, while the data from the Freeman-Carroll method have been used to determine various thermodynamic parameters. The thermal stabilities of polychelates obtained from thermograms are in the order Co(II) > Ni(II) > Fe(II) > Cu(II) > Mn(II), while the activation energy follows the order Ni(II) > Cu(II) > Co(II) > Fe(II) > Mn(II). The values of activation energy obtained by two methods are in agreement.
