Abstract

The graphite oxidation products were obtained by cold oxidation at 0°C of graphite in liquid medium. They were dehydrated over P 2O 5 and characterized by chemical analysis and X-ray diffraction. Their thermal decomposition was studied by thermogravimetry (TG), differential thermal analysis (DTA), and gas chromatography (GC). The powder diagrams of the samples obtained by heating at 270°C were recorded. The residues which were obtained from strongly oxidized products showed a new reflection (spacing between 4.3 and 4.5 Å).
