Abstract

The thermal decomposition of cobalt (11) and nickel (11) imidazole complexes of the type MIm 6 X 2 (where Im = C 3H 4N 2; X = Cl, Br or I and M = Co; X = NO 3) have been studied using T.G.A. and D.T.A. techniques. Both series of complexes decompose initially to yield complexes of the type MIm 2X 2. The chloro- and bromo-complexes then decompose at higher temperatures to yield either CoIm 1 3 X 2 ( X = Cl or Br) or Ni ImX 2) ( X = Cl or Br). Both iodo-complexes, however, lose iodine as well as imidazole. The complex Co Im 2(NO 3) 2 decomposes exothermically indicating decomposition of the nitrate group.
