Abstract

Abstract In order to get information about the mechanism of the thermal decomposition of hexamethylene tetramine (hexa), hexa was decomposed thermally in a vacuum vessel, and the composition of the gas thus produced was determined with a mass spectrometer. The main products found were ammonia and a carbon-rich solid residue. The carbon in the carbon-rich residue seems to act as a catalyst for the decomposition.
