Abstract

Thermal conductivity of isotopically enriched (93.2 at% 10 B and 6.8 at% 11 B) and natural (19.8 at% 10 B and 80.2 at% 11 B) β-rhombohedral boron crystals has been examined by a steady heat flow method. The maximum value of thermal conductivity, 570 (W/mK) at 40 Kelvin of 10 B enriched crystal is the largest value of boron whose crystal structure has a rhombohedral type. Experimental result indicated that isotopic enrichment made the phonon-mean free path longer because of reduction of phonon scatterer. Theoretical curve calculated thermal conductivity by the Callaway model agreed with the experimental curve around the temperature range of the maximum value.
