Abstract
1.1. Thermal compensation was studied in the stomach of the brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis Mitchill) by determining if differences in pepsin occurred as a result of acclimation to 5 and 12°C.2.2. No qualitative differences were indicated by pH or R-T curves.3.3. Quantitative differences did occur. Extracts of gastric mucosa from 5°C trout exhibited 30 per cent greater activity than those from 12°C trout.4.4. Certain temperature-dependent changes in the enzyme are discussed in relation to multiple forms of pepsinogen.
