Abstract
Switchable exhaust air(SEA) window is an airflow window with venetian blinds in-between the glass panes. The air flow way can be switched from the outer channel (for cooling mode) to the inner one (for heating mode).Part of the heat/coolth of exhaust air is used to remove the heat loss/gain through the window, and then the temperature of the indoor side surface of the glass pane will be made close to that of indoor air, resulting in reduction of the cooling/heating load through window. A steady-state numerical model developed by zonal approach is used to calculate the temperatures of the glass layers for evaluating the thermal performance of the SEA window. The total heat gain of the SEA window and the blinds window are investigated and compared in a peak summer day. The influence of exhaust air flow rate and window orientations on the thermal performance of the SEA window has also been carried out.
