Abstract
Mössbauer spectra of Sm 2Fe 17N x , prepared by the nitridation of Sm 2Fe 17 powders in an ammonia and hydrogen atmosphere, at elevated temperatures were observed to elucidate the behavior of nitrogen in Sm 2Fe 17N x compounds. It was found that there are two possible locations for nitrogen atoms in Sm 2Fe 17N x compounds corresponding to loosely and tightly bound nitrogen atoms in the Sm 2Fe 17 crystal.
