Abstract
We study the thermal and thermal-stressed states of the tires of railway wheels in the process of local surface hardening. For different points of the cross section of a tire, we determine the time dependences of temperature, thermal stresses, strains, strain rates, and the ratios of principal stresses. It is shown that, in the process of hardening, the material is subjected to alternating elastoplastic straining. The influence of location of the plasmotron on the levels of temperatures and thermal stresses is analyzed.
