Abstract

Shear and compression textures of inertia friction welding in the welding region of the α + β titanium alloy were measured using electron backscatter diffraction. The texture of substantial remnant β in the thermo-mechanical affected zone (TMAZ) was 〈100〉 fiber texture, while, it was the 〈111〉 fiber texture in the dynamic recrystallization zone (DRZ). In the DRZ, continuous dynamic recrystallization occurred which retained the deformation texture. To summarize, we concluded that the predominant deformation in the TMAZ was compression, while that in DRZ was shear.
