Abstract

Abstract Specific heat, thermal conductivity, and ultrasonic data on KTa.9 8 8Nb. 0. 1.2 O3 at low temperatures are reported. Neither the specific heat nor the thermal conductivity show anomalous behavior near the TC = 18K transition temperature. The elastic compliance shows a dip at 18K. The combined evidence indicates that the transition is of the mean-field type where quantum fluctuations quench the anomalies usually associated with polar transitions.
