Abstract

Thermal analyses of the NHMFL 45-T hybrid magnet system reported includethree aspects important for magnet design and operation: 1) cooldown of the superconducting outsert from ambient to operating temperature; 2) reaction of the cryogenic system to the quench in the magnet and the resulting requirements to the cold mass design; 3) calculation of AC losses during the charge of the superconducting outsert.
