Abstract

Abstract Gamma radiation effects upon sodium ion transport in GeO2 glasses prepared with a variety of liquid equilibration temperatures, T φ, have been examined. The thermal annealing of these effects has been measured and the results interpreted to give insight into the radiation induced perturbation of the glass structure through which the alkali ion moves. These results indicate that the activation energy for removal of the radiation induced modification is 2.0 eV irrespective of the glass preparation conditions.
