Abstract

Neurological emergencies are often regarded with alarm by first opinion practitioners. Five cases outlined here illustrate a systematic approach towards critical status evaluation of the dog and management of the owner. Utilising strategies from regular consultation examinations and general anaesthesia preparation are described, along with a summary of useful equipment and drugs. The use of formularies and emergency manuals as references is strongly recommended.
