Abstract

This article considers some of the difficulties in treating alcoholics and emphasizes the importance of establishing clear, effective therapeutic contracts with these clients in order to avoid alcoholic games. Multiple, hierarchical guidelines are presented for the writing and acceptance of an effective no-drinking contract. Rules are established that aid in the confrontation of resistance to change and in the establishment of adequate protection for the client.
