Abstract
After myocardial infarction (MI), patients should have their modifiable coronary risk factors intensively treated. On the basis of the available data, patients who smoke should be strongly encouraged to stop smoking because it will reduce cardiovascular mortality and allcause mortality after MI. The American College of Cardiology Foundation (ACCF)/ American Heart Association (AHA) 2011 guidelines recommend that patients should be asked about tobacco use at every office visit [1]. A smoking cessation program should be recommended to smokers. Patients should be advised at every office visit to avoid exposure to environmental tobacco smoke at work, at home, and at public places [1].
