Therapeutic tolerance - does it exist?

Abstract

I will try to approach this somewhat provocative title with a consideration that therapeutic tolerance is already in the clinic, whether induced by deliberate and repeatable therapeutic measures, or occurring as an accidental bonus. I am going to discuss approaches to try and extend the scope of tolerance and introduce the concept of near or prope tolerance, and finally a few comments on the likely directions of future research.
