Abstract
A therapeutic story is one that heals (Burns, 2005). We use stories to make sense of the world, communicate and influence others. Bettelheim (1975) described how fairy story themes reflect children’s experiences, helping them find meaning and purpose, exciting their curiosity and yet satisfying their sense of enjoyment. Therapeutic stories, told in safety, address an issue and give an element of hope or resolution.
