Abstract

A thirteen-year-old spayed female Doberman with a history of incontinence urination, blood at the end of urine stream for about three months. Clinical examination showed normal vital parameters with abnormal urine. Haemogram and serum biochemistry revealed severe anemia, neutrophilia, lymphocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, and elevated Blood Urea Nitrogen and creatinine level, respectively. Ultrasonographic examination revealed thickened bladder wall indicating severe cystitis. The pale yellow, cloudy urine sample and urinary sediments revealed numerous neutrophils, lymphocytes, and epithelial cells. The urine sample was subjected to culture, and an anti-microbial susceptibility test showed the presence of a gram-negative coccobacillus organism. The organism in the urine sample was sensitive to ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, and chloramphenicol while intermediately sensitive to cefotaxime and amikacin. The animal was diagnosed with cystitis with acute renal failure and was treated with ciprofloxacin, nephrotec, citralka, and advised to feed a special homemade renal diet. The dog has recovered with the given therapy, and renal values were also reduced.
