Abstract
Objective To investigate the operative methods and therapeutic effect of total hip arthroplasty (THA) in the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis (AS).Methods Twenty-six patients (29 hips) with AS were received THA and followed up for 3-36 mouths.Therapeutic effect was evaluated by Harris Grade System.X-ray of femorale shank and acetabulum were analyzed according to sector method.Results Pain of hip joint disappeared in all 26 patients.Anisotrophy of flections and contraction recovered.X-ray film demonstrated that prosthesis were in right location,no loose and ectopic ossification was found.No infection appeared in professional jargon and inters joints.There was a significant improvement in activity of hip joints and patients can basic self-care.Degrees of flexion were 60°-125°.Degrees of abduct and intort were 10°-50°,degrees of exterior and interior rotation were 20°-45°.Harris hip score were 62-94 (average 86.2) after operation,compared to 13.5-59.6 (average 34.5) before operation.Conclusions Artificial THA is effective for the treatment of patient with AS,with the principal advantages of reducing pain,rectifying anisotrophy,and improving the function.
