Abstract

Background and Aims : During pregnancy serum triglycerides and total cholesterol increase as physiological response to ensure fetal growth and placental function. However, elevated lipid levels in patients with a history of familial hyperlipidemia can result in pancreatitis, preterm birth, diabetes mellitus, preeclampsia and even death, both mother and child. Even though statins teratogenic effect is debatable, they should be avoided – treatment includes weight managing by low sodium diet, exercise, omega -3 acids.
