Abstract

Acetaminophen is a widely used analgesic and antipyretic in children that is known to be hepatotoxic in supratherapeutic doses. There have been several case reports of hepatotoxicity at therapeutic doses of acetaminophen in children. This study aimed to investigate clinical trials and case reports of hepatic toxicity when acetaminophen was used at therapeutic dosing levels for at least 24h to determine the rate of liver injury. Sixty-two studies including clinical trials and case reports met the inclusion criteria and totaled 32,414 children.
