Abstract

Accurate identification of chronic pain generators is a significant clinical challenge. The expression of voltage gated sodium channel (NaV) expression is enhanced in neuronal and inflamed tissues that exacerbate nociceptive activity. Using molecular imaging approaches, we can exploit this feature as an in vivo imaging biomarker to localize these pro-nociceptive tissues. With the eventual goal to translate this technology to the clinics, our initial aim is to validate this method in pre-clinical models of neuropathic pain.
