Abstract

A fully analytical theory is developed for the motion of a single hole in the t-J model based on the spin-polaron idea. With a self-consistent treatment of the hole-spin-wave interaction, we are able to overcome the difficulties encountered by the intermediate-coupling theory of Barentzen and obtain a theory applicable over the full range of the coupling strength. Good agreement with numerical studies is achieved.
