Abstract

Corrections are made to the theory of the Quincke tube given in G. W. Stewart and R. B. Lindsay's Acoustics (D. Van Nostrand Company, Inc., New York, 1930) and in the original paper by G. W. Stewart [Phys. Rev. 31, 696–698 (1928)]. Appended is an expression for the power-transmission ratio for the more general system in which the inlet tube is of cross-sectional area S1; the branch tubes are of cross-sectional areas S2,S3 and of lengths l2,l3, respectively; and the outlet tube is of cross-sectional area S4, instead of S1.
