Abstract
A simple theory considering the laser-field-induced complex index grating is presented for what is to the author's knowledge the f irst time to explain and calculate the observed wavelength increment in semiconductor lasers as their output light power increases and to calculate the gain saturation in semiconductor lasers. The calculation results agree with the commonly accepted results.
