Abstract

A theoretical investigation has been made of surface polaritons in germanium using experimental values of the complex dielectric constant. The surface-polariton dispersion curve and attenuation length were obtained from these data. In the higher-frequency region, the dispersion curve exhibits backbending. Zenneck modes were found in the small-wave-vector region (i.e., where $k<\frac{\ensuremath{\omega}}{c}$). The use of attenuated total reflection for observing the surface polaritons in Ge is discussed.
