Abstract

By examining the quantum mechanical counterpart of the Langevin equation applying to the quantum well structures of amorphous materials, several salient features may be quantitatively characterized via a mean free path L. A cutoff wavevector K C=0.3/L has been obtained. For L = 5 A ̊ , we found when the well width W is less than 50 Å one should begin to observe quantum size effects. And if L is not further degraded by reducing W, one should expect a reduction of the density of tail states.
