Abstract

The analysis of the thermal wave generation and propagation inthermally inhomogeneous solid with constant effusivity is presented. Thedeveloped theory is based on an exact solution of an inhomogeneous heatconduction equation with linear symmetry, taking into account internal heatsources of an arbitrary space distribution and time dependence. Generalizedexpressions for the complex temperature distribution and surface temperaturevariations are also presented. Two special cases that are particularly relevantfor photothermal techniques are also discussed.
