Abstract

This paper is an extension of previous work by Herrera and Figueroa to multiple leaky aquifers. The equations governing the motion of such systems are transformed to obtain a simpler system suitable for numerical treatment. An essential feature of the method is the introduction of a lag time that occurs because the influence of any aquifer is not transmitted instantly to its neighbors. This approximation is suitable for treating cases for which the conditions on the aquifers vary slowly. The numerical treatment of the resulting system of equations is of the same order of complexity as that for a single aquifer.
