Abstract

The Green function results derived in a previous paper (see ibid., vol.16, no.7, p.1307, 1983) are employed to calculate the cross-section for light scattering from standing bulk spin waves and localised surface spin waves in thin films of Heisenberg ferromagnets. A similar formalism is also developed to evaluate the absorption strengths associated with these excitations in spin wave resonance (SWR) studies. The effects due to surface anisotropy (or 'pinning') and modified surface exchange parameters are discussed, and the calculations are illustrated by numerical examples.
