Abstract

In the journal air-bearing, air is supp1ied from one or multiple air-hole and flows radially into bearing clearance at first, then flows longitudinally and lastly flows out from the both ends of the bearing. Therefore, a three-dimensional analysis is necessary when the air-bearing is theoretically researched. In this report, the theoretical investigations were made concerning the condition of non-eccentric rotation which is important for inspecting the air-bearing because it corresponds to the condition of minimum friction and then hydrodynamica1 solution was obtained by considering that the air flow corresponding to the condition of non-eccentric rotation is equivalent to the two-dimensional potential flow. Such theoretically obtained results moderately well coincide with the experimental results. And this solution can be applied to the case of multiple air-holes.
