Abstract

Intrinsic and extrinsic energy loss structures observed in XPS spectra from a deep core are discussed based on the many-body scattering theory proposed by Fukutome and Low. Within this theory these two effects are naturally interpreted and represented in a simple way. Both the intrinsic and extrinsic transition amplitudes are evaluated in the RPA-boson approximation. It is also shown that the extrinsic effects play an important role in the resonant X-ray photoemission spectra.
