Abstract
Some of the main properties of two classes of models for ionic diffusion in solids are reviewed. First we consider discrete lattice-gas models, adequate for ionic conductors where the particles are well localized about given lattice sites. Special cases of short-range and long-range interactions are considered. Second, we discuss liquid-like models, pertinent to α-AgI-type materials. A method based on liquid structure theory is outlined, which should allow one to investigate the role of particle-interactions with respect to the conductivity. Some experimental relevance of these models is discussed and directions for future studies are pointed out.
