Abstract

The high-energy scattering equations are derived in the impact parameter representation which treat the rearrangement channels correctly. An exact set of coupling potentials is obtained, and their structure is studied specifically for the charge-exchange processes. Several approximation methods are discussed. The variational principle with the bound property is introduced in the impact parameter formalism which provides a simple method of precisely evaluating the high-energy scattering amplitudes.
