Abstract
Some formulae and tables are presented which are intended to facilitate analysis of X-ray data obtained by the foil-absorption technique, when it is used to determine the electron temperature and the X-ray continuum spectrum of a plasma. Methods are described which enable the foil parameters to be optimized so that measurement errors are minimised.
