Abstract

Based on the electrodynamic theory, we have calculated the scattering fields of infinitelylong dielectric nanocylinders with silver coating, and compared them with those of a puresilicon cylinder. The calculation result indicates that there exists an enhanced electric fieldin the silver-coated silicon nanocylinder and shows a great Raman enhancement factor(∼1012) ascompared with bulk silicon. For a special area in the silver-coated silicon nanocylinder, the enhancementcomes up to 4 × 1013.
