Abstract

For the polyethylene crystal, a local, non-linear, static theory of elasticity is established. This theory takes into account the complete microstructure of the material. Within the framework of differential geometry, dislocations and disclinations are introduced. Non-linear, local constitutive equations are established and the equations of elastic equilibrium are derived. The theory may be applied to calculate the deformations and the stress of defects in the polyethylene crystal.
