Abstract
We present theories for dust ion‐acoustic (DIA) solitary and shock waves in an unmagnetized dusty plasma including the effects of dust charge fluctuations. We derive the Kortweg‐de Vries equation as well as the Kortweg‐de Vries‐Burgers equation by employing the reductive perturbation method. It is shown that the dust charge fluctuation does not only modify the properties of DIA solitary waves, but it also introduces a dissipation which is responsible for DIA shock waves.
