Abstract

We have formulated the bulk reaction rate rigorously, namely, in terms of the pair probability. Although Shlesinger criticized the usual method of calculating the bulk reaction rate, our result shows that the usual method is correct, at least with respect to the point raised by him. By use of the new formalism we have also analyzed the Wilemski-Fixman model for diffusion-controlled reactions. The present result is in contrast with their approximate one, indicating that the approximation used by them is inadequate.
