Abstract
We discuss the connection between the dipole approach and the DIS structure functions. Particular emphasis is given to DIS diffraction. We report on current work on the NLO photon impact factor. As an application of the dipole approach in DIS diffraction, we discuss the diffractive production of jets and of charm.
