Abstract

The theory of the Auger neutralization is studied. The Auger neutralization of He + ions on NaCl surfaces is explained by means of the impact parameter of the He + ion trajectory measured from the individual Cl − ions on the surface. Using a simple model, the trajectory dependence of the Auger neutralization yield is calculated on the basis of a dynamical formalism.
