Abstract

The paper is devoted to the analysis of scientific works of V.V.Volsky in the field of geographical studies of Latin America. During 40 years he was the chair of the department of social and economic geography of foreign countries at Moscow University and for many years served as the director of the Institute of Latin America of the Academy of Sciences. Main research lines Volsky followed are being reviewed: the complex geo-graphical country studies, economic regionalization and regional studies, typology of countries. An assessment of his contribution to development of these topics is provided. Scientific works of Volsky are evaluated from the point of view of different paradigms of geographical country studies. Examples of practical implication of research results are provided, which served as a base for implementation of different development projects in Latin American countries. The importance of Volsky’s ideas for modern development of science and role of his scientific heritage for higher geographical education are pointed out.
