Abstract

The authors show that for any set of complex numbers there exists a unique, up to congruent, phase-ordered sequence that contains all the numbers in the set and their sum such that connecting the phasors head to tail will form a convex polygon. The theory developed is applied to the design of optical matched binary amplitude filters (BAFs) and binary phase-only filters (BPOFs).
