Abstract

An analytical Coulomb friction model for the general cold sandwich sheet rolling bonded before rolling is proposed by using the slab method without Runge–Kutta numerical method to explore the stress field of sheets at the roll gap. This model assumes the friction between the rolls and the sandwich sheet to be Coulomb friction (i.e. τ= μp). The neutral point between the roll and the sandwich sheet; the rolling pressure distribution along the contact interface between the roll and the sandwich sheet, the horizontal stresses in the component layers of the sandwich sheet, the shear stress at the interface of the sandwich sheet, the rolling force and rolling torque, etc., can be easily and rapidly calculated using this model. By this approach, the complete forms for the rolling pressure distribution, rolling force and rolling torque could be obtained, and integral analytical model of cold sandwich sheet rolling is derived. Therefore this study is more suitable for the rolling industry.
