Abstract

Abstract A theoretical study has been carried out on delayed neutrons. Such neutrons are produced by β decay of neutron-rich fission fragments. The average number of delayed neutrons is estimated based on the sum of the β-delayed neutron-emission probabilities multiplied by the cumulative fission yield for each nucleus. Using the gross theory of β decay, the ability to theoretically reproduce the β-decay rate and the delayed neutron emission probability is discussed.
