Abstract

Urban Sociology presently is in a state of crisis. For this reason, an effort to bring close to reality should concentrate not only in conducting empirical field studies within cities but also in finding an operative framework of the city in general. The position taken in this manuscript is such that present crisis confronting the theories of Urban Sociology blamed on the failure to recognized characteristic regional studies in encompass. Cities, like rural villages, one of the two categories found within any sociologically defined region, and should be considered a segmental society of such. Therefore to conduct a valid study of a region, it is necessary that Regional Sociology relate more closely to characteristics of the particular region concerned and resemble various achievements in sociology such as the theories on action, division of labour, class structure (social stratification), social establishment (social system) etc., accordingly. Similarly, it is necessary that Urban Sociology relates more closely to the characteristics of the population, viewed as an integrative organ of the cultural heritage of the region, and resemble these achievements of sociology accordingly. In this manner, not only a new theoretical structuring but also a restoration of exhausted sociological imagination will become possible for the theories in Urban Sociology, which regretfully is in a state of stagnancy.
