Abstract

This article describes the theoretical principles behind the design and reconfiguration of continuous casters with radial molds into continuous casters with a vertical molds. Two variants for such reconstruction are examined: retention of the base radius and retention of the original height of the caster. Mathematical relations are presented for increasing caster height while preserving the base radius and changing the latter while keeping the height unchanged. The choice of approach depends on such parameters as the height of the vertical section, the height of the bending section (for casters with a vertical mold), and the distance from the axis of oscillation of the mold to the top of the copper sleeve (for casters with a radial mold).
